The Municipio of Guanabacoa is one of the twenty six municipios in the province of Havana, Cuba. It is located on the center and north of the province. This Municipio covers a surface of 289 square kilometers. To the west it borders with the municipios of Havana and Regla; to the south with San Antonio de las Vegas, San José de las Lajas and with Santa María del Rosario which also borders it on the east. To the east it also borders with Santa Cruz del Norte and Jaruco. To the north its coast, with some of Cuba best beaches, is washed by the Gulf of Mexico.

Note: A “municipio” (plural: municipios) is the first political division of the provinces in Cuba. It is similar, in many ways, to the county or parish in which a state is divided in the United States.

Population: The population of this municipio in 1953 was 112,333 persons.

Barrios: The “barrios” (singular: barrio) are similar to the electoral districs in which a county is divided in the United Sates.

The barrios of Guanabacoa in 1943 were: Bacuranao, Campo Florido, Cojímar, Cruz Verde, Este de Corral Falso, Este de la Asunción, Este de San Francisco, Oeste de Corral Falso, Oeste de la Asunción, Oeste de San Francisco, Pepe Antonio and San Miguel del Padrón.
