The Municipio of Havana (La Habana) is one of the twenty six municipios in the province of Havana, Cuba. It is located on the north coast, at approximately the center of the province. This municipio covers a surface of 113 square kilometers. Most of it extends to the west and southwest of the Bay of Havana; with some land east of the bay, from Casa Blanca to La Habana del Este (East Havana, a building complex).

Note: A “municipio” (plural: municipios) is the first political division of the provinces in Cuba. It is similar, in many ways, to the county or parish in which a state is divided in the United States.

Population: The population of this municipio in 1953 was 787,775 persons.

Barrios: The “barrios” (singular: barrio) are similar to the electoral districs in which a county is divided in the United Sates.

The barrios of Havana in 1943 were: Arroyo Apolo, Arroyo Naranjo, Arsenal, Atarés, Calvario, Casa Blanca, Cayo Hueso, Ceiba, Cerro, Colón, Chávez, Dragones, Guadalupe, Jesús del Monte, Jesús María, Luyanó, Manuel de la Cruz, Marte, Medina, Monserrate, Paula, Peñalver, Pilar, Príncipe, Pueblo Nuevo, Puentes Grandes, Punta, San Felipe, San Francisco, San Isidro, San Juan de Dios, San Lázaro, San Leopoldo, San Nicolás, Santa Clara, Santa Teresa, Santo Angel, Santo Cristo, Tacón, Templete, Vedado, Villanueva and Vives.
