Guanito is located 18 Kilometers to the north of the City of Pinar del Rio. On the road to Luis Lazo, Guanito is before Isabel Maria. |
In this location, selected because of its lack of population, in 1944 was installed an artillery range. After WW II the government attention took a different direction and the war against the tuberculosis took a mayor role nationwide. Guanito isolated location came into play once more. In 1947 the building we see in these pictures was constructed as a local hospital against the terrible disease of the post war era. |

In the present Guanito in Pinar del Rio is similar to Mazorra in Havana. This is the hospital where people with psychological problems are taken in the Pinar del Rio region.
