Municipio of Mayarí |
The Municipio of Mayarí is one of the twenty two municipios in the province of Oriente, Cuba. This municipio covers a surface of 1,872 square kilometers. |
Note: A "municipio" (plural: municipios) is the first political division of the provinces in Cuba. It is similar, in many ways, to the county or parish in which a state is divided in the United States. |
The Municipio of Mayarí is located on the northern part of the Province of Oriente. To the east this municipio borders with the Municipio of Sagua de Tánamo, and to the south with the municipios of Alto Songo and San Luis. To the west it borders with the municipios of Palma Soriano and Holguín. And to the north part of this municipio borders with the Municipio of Antilla, while the rest of its northern limits are part of the northern coast of Cuba. |

Chavaleta Norte: In 1943 this barrio had a population of 6,731 persons. It is located ten kilometers from the city of Mayarí. Includes the towns of Chavaleta, Herradura, Arroyo Blanco and Vista Hermosa. |
Chavaleta Sur: Its population was 2,246 persons in 1943. It is located five kilometers from the city of Mayarí. Includes the towns of Granadillo, Arroyo Hondo, Coreobabo and Franco. |
Guayabo: This barrio is also called Mayarí. It had 3,655 people in 1943. It is located nine kilometers from the city of Mayarí. |
Juan Vicente: In 1943 it had 2,027 people. It is located five and a half kilometers from the city of Mayarí. Includes the towns of Juan Vicente, Platanillo, Serones and Playa Manteca. |
Mateo Sánchez: The population of this barrio in 1943 was 2,670 persons. It is located four kilometers from the city of Mayarí. Includes the towns of Braguetudo, Manguito and Chucho. |
Punta de Tabaco: Its population in 1943 was 5,484 persons. It is located six kilometers from the city of Mayarí. Includes the Preston sugar mill, and the towns of Botija and Playa Manteca. |
Río Frío: Had a population of 2,776 persons in 1943. Includes the towns of Río Arriba, Macio, Platanal, Palmarita and Río Frío. |
Sae-Tia: Had a population of 71 persons in 1943. It is located fifteen kilometers from the city of Mayarí. Includes the towns of Carcuero, Molino and Sae-Tia. |
